Three rooms, one kitchen
Dining
Everything is cooked in the same kitchen behind the veranda, by the same five people, so what changes is where you sit and how long you plan to stay. Lake fish comes in on Tuesday and Friday, when the boats land, and there's cheese from the Thônes valley all week.
Bar Soie
evenings · off the hall
Somebody paid by the hour panelled the room in walnut and took their time over it. There are twenty-two seats including the counter, plus a bench along the window side that holds six if they're friendly. The list runs to Génépi, Chartreuse, the Savoie whites and a few drinks that arrive in a coupe. Food is olives, cured ham and bread, so you won't need a knife.
It fills between 18:30 and 20:00, empties when dinner is called, and fills a second time around 22:00 when the veranda turns everybody out.
Open 17:00–00:30, daily
Food small plates until 23:00
Music a piano, Friday and Saturday from 21:00
La Véranda
breakfast and dinner · water side
The silk family built this glazed room so they could eat facing the lake in bad weather. It seats forty on a hard floor, which makes for a great deal of noise at breakfast and almost none by nine in the evening. Dinner is four or five dishes written up each afternoon, plus the féra if there is any.
Tables along the glass are kept for guests staying in the house until 19:30, and after that they go to anybody waiting.
Breakfast 07:15–10:00, Sunday to 10:30
Dinner 19:00–21:30, Tuesday to Sunday
Closed Monday evening
Le Hangar
daytime, April to October · at the jetty
The boathouse still holds two boats, and the rest of it is a counter with eight stools and a slate. Coffee starts at seven and cold plates at eleven, with lake fish cured in the house, tomatoes, a hard cheese and bread. Eat standing at the counter, or carry your plate onto the jetty and sit with your feet over the edge.
It closes when it rains because the stools have no roof over them, and we won't pretend otherwise.
Coffee 07:00–11:00
Plates 11:30–16:00
Season April to October, weather permitting
If the perch is on the slate it was in the lake the day before. If it is not on the slate, do not ask.Pierre Ollivier, kitchen
Practical notes
Booking a table
Telephone reception or ask at the desk. Same-evening bookings can't be made by email, because nobody is watching the inbox between six and ten.
Diets
Mention it at breakfast and dinner will take it into account. Vegetarian is always possible, vegan needs a few hours' notice, and the kitchen is small enough to know exactly what goes into every dish.
Children
Children are welcome at breakfast and in La Véranda until 20:30, and at Le Hangar all day. After eight, Bar Soie is for adults.
Outside guests
Guests who are not staying are welcome in La Véranda and Bar Soie when there's space, and reception can tell you whether there is.
